Rock Climbing

IMG_0540.JPG

Rimu Year ⅞’s are participating in the 2016 William Pike Challenge. William and James were walking up Mt Ruapehu they stayed in a small cabin. It was about the middle of the night when there was a huge snow storm! William got stuck in the mud and the snow so he couldn’t move. William had to get his leg amputated but still carried on travelling New Zealand.

On Monday the Year ⅞’s went rock climbing and abseiling as our second William Pike Challenge, here is my story about my experience and feelings when I was rock climbing.

The Rimu Year ⅞’s went up to Cattlestop Crag for our second William Pike outdoor challenge. We arrived in the Port Hills and it was FREEZING.  Steve and Josh were our instructors for the day, we started walking on a narrow pathway to the abseiling wall. Below me was an amazing view of Christchurch, grass hills, rocks, roads and houses.

When I was climbing I looked down and saw an amazing view of Christchurch. I felt so small compared to this view!

We stopped at the abseiling wall and Steve talked to us about what we will be doing at this rock., we kept walking to the Rock Climbing rock. He got us to put our harnesses on to get ready for climbing.

Steve took six people to abseiling, and Josh took about fourteen to Rock Climbing. I climbed up one of the easy rock wall and I got about a ⅓ of the way up the rock and then I got down. While we were waiting to go to abseiling we explored the area Steve took 5 people to abseiling and Josh took his 6 people to rock climbing.

When we arrived at the abseiling wall I thought that it would be pretty easy! But no, after Jesse and Emily went down it was my turn, I was so scared!

I abseiled down and felt like I was walking on a wall!

Hope you enjoyed!
